What Is LED Light Therapy?

LED light therapy is a proven, popular, and non-invasive treatment for various skin conditions, including acne, rosacea, pigmentation, sun damage, and premature aging. This effective rejuvenation solution uses varying wavelengths (colors) of LED light to stimulate the skin’s natural healing processes and encourage healthy new skin tissue to grow. Find out more about how LED light therapy can help you achieve your skin goals and which treatment is right for you.

How does LED light therapy work?

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode — a device that emits therapeutic wavelengths of light energy. During treatment, it penetrates the dermis layer of the skin, providing energy to important cells that produce collagen and elastin.

LED light therapy treatments are available in three wavelengths that penetrate the skin at different depths: red, blue, and infrared. Each color triggers certain rejuvenation processes in the skin and is used to treat varying conditions. Treatments are fast (typically lasting between 20-30 minutes) and generally require no downtime.

Blue LED light therapy

Blue LED light therapy is a popular anti-acne treatment. Blue light specifically targets the sebaceous glands that are responsible for producing oil in the skin. By reducing sebaceous activity, it can help your skin become less oily and improve your acne symptoms. Blue light therapy can also kill the type of bacteria that causes pimples and acne lesions.

Red LED light therapy

Red LED light treatments are a fantastic rejuvenation treatment to improve scarring, inflammation, and aging concerns, including wrinkles and loss of elasticity. Red LED light targets the fibroblast cells, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and activating cell regeneration. The result is plumper, firmer skin and reduced wrinkles and fine lines.

Infrared LED light therapy

Infrared LED light therapy uses a colorless light to calm and lighten melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that might result from acne or other skin trauma. An infrared light therapy session is great for increasing circulation and boosting your blood flow, helping you achieve that natural glow. It’s an effective all-around regeneration treatment that helps stimulate tissue repair and can ease pain and inflammation.
