Everything You Need To Know About Permanent Makeup
Makeup serves as a usual morning ritual for tens of millions of women. Over a lifetime, a woman can invest untold amounts of money and time into looking great with makeup.
With permanent makeup, at least some of the most time consuming practices may be a thing of the past.
Permanent makeup is not a product, but a process. A technician uses manual devices to add color beneath the skin, much like a tattoo artist.
Permanent Eyebrows
Microblading: Known as feather method, hair stroke brows, 3D brows and eyebrow embroidery. A specialized hand-held tool is used to create realistic, natural looking hair strokes to seamlessly blend with your natural hair.
Powder Brows: This technique is more advanced than traditional tattooed brows. The technique is described by its name – the results are more powdery and fluffy with a faded front and a crisp tail. For a stunning look, opt for our ombre powder technique. Or choose full powder brows if you prefer your brows to be defined by a bolder more dramatic style.
Permanent Eyeliner
To achieve this effect, the technician uses needles similar to an acupuncture needle to deposit color directly into the eye line. Experts suggest a more conservative approach. First, the permanent eyeliner should use more subtle browns instead of black if you only wear light color when applying your own makeup. Also, avoid getting a “cat eye” effect” because it generally cracks and ages poorly.
The eye line should remain clear for a few days. Applying mascara especially before this healing period ends could cause a painful infection.
Lip Full Color
The lip full color process uses some of the same devices and techniques as those used on the permanent eyebrow. The difference lies in the effect producing a smooth and uniform color.
Because the lips carry more nerve endings, the technician will generally use a topical anesthetic to numb the lips before application. Injected anesthetic is more effective, but it could cause the lips to swell and affect the final result.
Because of the delicate tissues involved, clients may experience swelling over the first 48 hours. Also, the initial result will look more rich and vivid than requested because the lips will lose 50 to 75 percent of the color within two weeks.
Permanent Concealer
Experts strongly advise avoiding this procedure. It creates an unpleasant texture and the colors generally fade to the point where they no longer match the skin. Most reputable technicians avoid and urge against permanent concealer.
TIP: It’s Important to Get the Right Permanent Makeup Technician
When looking for a technician, insist on seeing a portfolio of work before engaging them. This will give you an idea of what to expect. Also keep in mind that a great permanent makeup technician respects equally artistry, technique, and, most important of all, safety.
