Sweating And Eyelash Extensions

Working out with eyelash extensions

So you've got your new eyelash extensions and you're loving them. But what about when it comes to working out? Our bodies sweat all over, and whether you're hitting the track or lifting weights, and especially taking a dip in the pool, your new lashes are going to get wet.

Sweat and water can cause damage to your eyelash extensions and prevent the lash adhesive from working properly, so it's important to know all the facts and tips for extending the life of your lashes with this handy guide.

First 24 hours

When you first get your lashes, you should be told about the 3-24 hour adhesive drying rule time which depends on the adhesive used by your lash expert. This means no water on or around your eyes for 3-24 hours, including showering, washing your face, sweating, or any other activity. It's a good idea to shower before you get your lashes in this case! For cleaning your face, keep a cloth or wipe on hand so that you can avoid getting your lashes wet.

Optimal conditions

All lash adhesives contain an active ingredient called cyanoacrylate. This important ingredient is what ensures your lashes stay put for weeks on end, as well as quickly dries and attaches the synthetic lashes to your own natural. Even though you should avoid water and sweat around the adhesive, there is an optimal humidity level of around 40-60% to ensure the cyanoacrylate works properly. Which we maintain in our studio with a humidifier or dehumidifier. See how much goes into your lashes!

Seal and protect

Now that you've waited the 3-24 hours, you can work out, but before you do so, you should use a special sealant to lock in the adhesive and lock out any moisture. This protects your lash extensions from any sweat that may get in your eyes. Ask one of our technicians about our lash sealant from Xtremelashes.

Cleanse and dry

Once you've worked out, use a cleanser to remove the buildup of any sweat and salt as well as the sealant. Gently wipe it away and dry your lashes. Don’t worry we show you the best way to cleanse your lashes. Again, we have all you need at the studio to clean your new extensions.

Wearing lash extensions is a great way to boost your natural lashes and your confidence, meaning you can go makeup-free more often without feeling self-conscious.
