Microblading + Permanent Makeup Care

Aftercare:

Immediately after the procedure, an antibacterial ointment will be applied to create a protective barrier and prevent infection in the newly open skin. Wash this off 3 hours post procedure and every 3 hours for the first day. After the first day, gently wash the area only once a day with lukewarm water and a mild soap and pat dry with disposable soft paper towel to remove any secretion.

You can resume regular day-to-day activities but during the first 7 - 10 days:  keep the treated area very dry! Avoid getting the area wet while showering, excessive sweating, swimming, steam rooms and saunas. Keep the treated area makeup-free as cosmetics of any kind may interfere with the healing and color. Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds, as this may cause the color to heal ashy.

Simply sit back, relax and do nothing, seriously. It will itch, which is a natural part of the healing process, but it is imperative that you do not pick, peel or scratch the treated area as it will prevent color from retaining. You will risk patchiness, scarring and possibly infection.

For Eyebrows:

Brows may weep a clear liquid for the first 24 hours which is normal. A few times over the first day, blot any residue dry with a soft paper towel to prevent a thick crust from forming. Thick scabbing can result in more pigment loss. Follow all the instructions above. Don't apply anything to it after washing and let it breathe. On day day 5 and onward, you may apply the following products to help with any itchiness (but it is not necessary) dabbed on very sparingly with a cotton swab up to three times a day: grapeseed oil, coconut oil or unscented, non-medicated lotion. Do not use petroleum jelly (like Vaseline) as this causes the brow to sweat underneath. Do not use anti-bacterial ointments because they will remove pigment from your brows. Keep your fringe away from your eyebrows for the first 3 days as this is the easiest way to cause infection.

For Eyeliner:

Swelling will differ per person but most eyes will look puffy as if one has been crying. Puffiness can last 1-2 days. Do not use any aftercare products. You may use saline to bathe the eyes if they feel sore or tight. Do not wear contact lenses, curl lashes or use mascara for at least five days after the procedure.

For Lips:

For the 10 days following the tattoo procedure, wash the site gently with liquid soap and water using your hands only. Blot the area dry. Do not rub. After clean apply  in gently for 15 seconds grapeseed oil, coconut oil or unscented, non-medicated lotion multiple times per day. Do not use petroleum jelly (like Vaseline).

  • After initial healing (7-10 days) use lip gloss with sun block over the tattooed area to preserve color. The continued use of at least SPF 30 sunblock with UVA and UVB protection will help to prevent fading. Sleep slightly elevated for the first few nights to reduce swelling.

Extra tips + Info:

Longevity is greatly dependent on skin type and care. The following recommendations can help prolong your cosmetic tattoo:

  • Ensure you follow ALL of the aftercare instructions for the best pigment retention.

  • The slower the absorption of the pigment during the treatment, the longer the pigment will hold. Bleeding during the procedure will reduce the pigment absorption. Avoid alcohol and blood thinners such as vitamin E, aspirin, ibuprofen, gingko biloba and fish oil supplements 48 hours prior to procedure. Avoid caffeine the day of procedure.

  • Try to keep any crusting and scabbing attached to skin as long as possible as this keeps the pigment in. Picking during healing phase will cause loss of pigment.

  • Drink plenty of water during the healing process to maintain hydration in the skin.

  • Maintain a healthy diet during healing. Generally the healthier you are, the better the retention.

  • Smoking during healing process will reduce the healing time and result in less pigment retention.

  • The speed at which your skin regenerates will affect the longevity:

  •   - Oilier skin turns over faster and therefore pigment fades quicker.

  •   - Age also plays a factor. Older skin retains pigment less than younger skin.

  •   - Avoid exfoliation directly over the procedure area, and this includes products with Retin-A and Glycolic Acid that will turn over the skin quicker.

  • Sun exposure is will fade pigment so it is always recommended to use SPF once healed.

  • Note: Lighter colours, such as blonde pigments, will fade quicker than darker colours.
