Tooth Gems 101

Add some pizzazz to your smile with a tooth gem from Beauty Rule. We’ll apply your choice of gold or crystal tooth gems that are dental-grade and lead-free. It does not involve any drilling or permanent damage to your teeth. Our tooth gems use a semi-permanent dental bond and a light curing process that is completely safe and painless. We only use charms that are 18-24 carat gold and 100% certified advanced Swarovski crystal.

Tooth Gems can last anywhere from a few months to a few years depending on your lifestyle and how well you take care of your teeth. We do not offer gem removal, but a licensed dental professional can easily remove the gem and adhesive and buff out any residue. You must be at least 18 years old to receive this service. How It Works

Treatment FAQs

  • Yes, we only work on individuals 18-years old or older. Please be ready to present a valid ID at the time of your service!

  • No, we are appointment only. You can book an appointment online through Vagaro, our website, or text/call us at 503-966-3333. We offer tooth gems at both our Northwest and Northeast locations!

  • Anywhere from a few months to a few years. With extra care, they will last you a long time. Aggressive brushing, chewing hard candies, mouth injuries, and wearing retainers can negatively impact the lifespan of your tooth gem. If your gem falls off within two weeks of your initial appointment, we will fix for free.

  • Yes. We only use certified lead-free crystals and quality gold specifically designed for this purpose.

  • The jewels are only 0.4mm or 0.9mm thick and 1.8mm to 3mm in diameter. Initially, something on your tooth will feel different, but a few days after the application, you will get used to the new feeling.

  • No! The jewel will bond to the enamel, like an orthodontic bracket. When it is removed, the gem is simply popped off and the tooth will be polished to remove any remaining bonding material.

  • Unfortunately, the bonding agent will only attach to natural tooth tissue. We cannot adhere tooth gems to any type of faux teeth.

  • Unfortunately we cannot remove any charms or adhesive at the time of your service; a dentist must do it before you arrive. Your tooth must be free of previous crystals/bond at the time of service. The bonding agent will not attach to existing bond.

  • No, the presence of the tooth jewelry will not make any difference regarding dental hygiene. However, it is recommended not to use an electric toothbrush.

  • The jewels are extremely small and non toxic. They have no sharp edges. It is safe to pass them naturally.

  • Yes, you can and should still have your teeth cleaned by a professional. Tooth jewelry will not cause a problem for the hygienist cleaning your teeth. The area underneath the jewel is sealed like a filling and will not let in any bacteria. The hygienist can easily polish on top and around the gemstone with a soft point.

  • For a retainer, it depends on the type. If it is a Hawley Retainer (the wire kind), yes! Just bring it to your appointment and we can make sure the placement of the gems doesn’t interfere with it. Unfortunately, if you have the clear plastic tray type (this also applies to Invisalign), it will put too much pressure on your tooth and the gem, so it’s not something we would recommend.

  • Not recommended for:

    Pregnant and breastfeeding women

Young children (must be 18+ years old)

Anyone with poor dental hygiene, sensitive, cracked, or lined teeth

    Anyone with gum recession

Prep + Post Treatment

  • • Brush and floss before you arrive.

    • Set aside 45 minutes for your appointment which includes consultation, tooth gem selection, and application.

    • Swarovski Crystals and Gold Gems can only be placed on a natural tooth that does not require dental work.

    • If you are thinking of whitening your teeth, do this before we apply your tooth gem. We offer 1 Hour Teeth Whitening sessions that can be performed before gem application.

    • We cannot apply a tooth gem if you wear invisible braces (Invisalign). If the tooth gem dislodges, it may impact the effectiveness of the aligner.

If you wear a retainer, please bring this with you to ensure a perfect placement for your tooth gem.

    • We cannot remove tooth gems. This needs to be done in advance by your dental professional who will remove residue from the existing gem and smooth out the surface on your tooth.

    • Make sure to eat something before you arrive. We recommend that you wait at least 2 hours after a gem is placed to eat so that the bond is fully set.

  • • Be mindful that the gem adhesive will take 24 hours to fully cure.

    • Do not eat for at least 2 hours after gem is placed.

    • Only eat soft foods for 24 hours.

    • Avoid chewy and hard food.

    • Do not smoke for 12 hours. The heat from smoking can affect the bond.

    • Avoid drinking soda, coffee, and tea for 24 hours. Drink water only, ideally with a straw.

    • Gently brush teeth using a soft bristle toothbrush.

    • Do not touch your tooth gem for 24 hours. You don't want to do anything to shift the gem, as it will be still settling into place throughout the day.
